Violence against Women (VAW) is a serious public health problem and violation of a fundamental human right. In Nigeria, patriarchal values and structures are culturally deep rooted and VAW issues do not receive the sort of public recognition that they should.

According to qualitative and quantitative studies in Nigeria, mostly women and girls are subjected to all types of gender-based violence (GBV) including physical, sexual and psychological violence. This leads to many health problems including reproductive health and mental health issues.

It therefore becomes imperative to have a crop of health care professionals who are trained to respond to the needs of women who have experienced IPV. In the light of these facts, CAREMI organised a 2-day Training of Trainer Workshop on responding to women subjected to intimate partner violence. This workshop considered focus on counselling, support and treatment.
